Go Listen to; Florry

A damn good, young band

How come everyone loves to mention that music today isn't as good as it used to be? Is it because we were forced to spend our childhoods listening to our parents favorite songs. If so, hopefully they were playing something good - like Cream, or the Allman Brothers and not Aerosmith or something -- kidding, kinda. ¯\(ツ)

There is actually almost too much good music coming out right now - in most genres, but especially the indie rock adjacent scenes. From Geese to Wednesday, MJ Lenderman, Wet Leg and everyone in between, there's so much to listen to, and nearly too much to go see them all live in this economy!

I do think all of these aforementioned bands add something new to music, but the group really doing it is one no one on the internet is arguing about being an industry planted psyop, yet. Florry, while once a 10-piece band now tours as a 7-member group from Philadelphia. And one of the best parts about them is how much fun they look like they're having while they're playing together.

Sounds Like... came out one year ago and its still on constant repeat for me because of how well the record captures the feeling of a live band jamming together, only in a studio setting. Listening to the 41-minute album you feel as though they are on stage right in front of you with its raw and organic, authentic sound.

But, if “Sounds Like...” didn't rock hard enough for you, the band just took it a step further with “Smells Like....Forry Live As Hell,” their new live album that released last month on Bandcamp, with a limited cassette release too that includes a Kurt Vile feature of a Wilco cover.

While I'm sure Florry is getting sick of critics relating them to their peers, I will leave this in hopes it gets you to give them a spin: Florry really sounds unique. Their songs, tone, vocals all are truly them. But you can hear strong Neil Young/Crazy Horse in there and as a big Neil Young fan, they may relate in some sounds, but they are not emulating or recreating that sound in any way.

Florry is the best band around right now and is worth a listen.
